07/10/15 .......
I have found another set of Zulu war rules to try out . They state they can cover both games with a few dozen figures up to a game with 100 British infantry defending a hastily fortified mission against 4000 Zulus . I am not sure that it would work with my multi based armies .
However i want to give it a go and wil bring it along on Wednesday . i have used a scenario to test the other rules i have based on the action at Myers drift on the Intombe river . it sees 80 British hiding behind some wagons being attacked by 800 Zulus .Doesn't necessarily sound like the most exciting scenario but the the Zulus have won one out of the 3 so far so it is not a forgone conclusion.
I am one of those gamers who tends to spend more effort on figures than scenery , so if anyone could bring along a river i could borrow , that would be appreciated
also if anyone fancies charging recklessly into a hurricane of bullets or standing firing that hurricane of bullets i would be happy to take the other side of umpire if 2 people are interested

this sounds interesting. How many players can it accommodate?

the figures are 6mm . the river could be any width ,just to represent it was there . ideally somewhere between 50 and 100 mm wide. pete did bring a river once and it looked much better than my belt . (with rather less chance of me embarrassing myself too!) .
if i use this latest set of rules it would probably be a 2 player game
i do have a version of the scenario with one of the other sets with up to 5 zulu players . they all want to beat the brits , but have their own sub plots and mini objectives within the scenario .
could then just have several zulu commanders , the brits take could be run by an umpire . oh , that would be me then
i am hoping to eventually build a kraal to give the brits a chance to rustle some cattle and burn some huts ( happy and glorious?)
and there is an interesting variant involving just mounted troops to do similar during a raid on a mountain top settlement.
the first mounted troops are on the painting table( as are lots of other things!)

I will try and remember my river for you.
But the memory's not what it used to be

Oi, don't you, throw bloody spears, at me!
Steve I would like to dive in on this if you want spear throwers. As long as you can cope with the occasional over exaggerated Michael Caine impersonation. If there are too many players I will bow out to let newer members that didn't get a game last week have a go.

hi lee
haven't heard from anyone else yet , so looks like you have the job of over running the defences , taking away the cattle and doing the michael caine impressions . if you get that far..........
would still be room for others to join in . haven't tried these rules yet . have potential to be quick . lots of dice to throw though . could always run it a couple of times if is too quick though

Re: 07/10/15 .......
thanks for letting me know simon . can cope without a river , and without my trousers falling down too !!!. perhaps i need to become one of those wargamers who spends as much time and effort on scenery as they do figures.
or perhaps i could cut one of the boxes of one of pauls boardgames up and use that

All good war gamers wear two belts. One blue one brown.
Gives you a road or river choice.

Steve - if you're gonna chop up one of Paul's games make sure you take card from all sides. Paul hates 'unbalanced' games lol
