4th November 2012 - War & Conquest Gaming Day

Post  phil24 on July 27th 2012, 09:44

Gents,

We've hired the hall on Sunday 4th November for a War & Conquest gaming day.

The concept is 3 games played during the day against historical opponents. It's not a competition, but there'll be a couple
of small prizes at the end of the day.

The cost of the day is £10 including lunch.

Let me know if you'd like to participate and which army you propose using.

The day is also being advertised on the War & Conquest forum, so we should get a few visitors.

All the best,

Phil

Phil

I'm up for the day and quite fancy using the Egyptians if possible. I've also got Vikings, British kingdoms, indians and Persians if anyone needs to borrow an army.

Cheers

November 4th

Post  Steve r on August 4th 2012, 17:16

Will this day be totally devoted to war and conquest or will there be room for other games . Of all the game systems i lack competence in , this is likely to one i am least competent at . Would prefer to try fire and fury that day but if that is not an option and if people don'T THink i will embarass the club anymore than those members who have already expressed an interest in attending on that day then i would give it a go

I've added this to the latest news section on the main website.

In answer to Steve's question, I believe its a day purely for W & C. (I'd double check with Phil though Very Happy )

War and Conquest gaming day 4.11.12 - Details

Post  phil24 on October 21st 2012, 14:08

Please arrive around 9am, the first game will start circa 9.30

Army size: 2000 points. Armies should be selected from the scarab website online army organisation lists. You may include up to 250 points of Legends of War within the 2000 points.

If you have not yet confirmed your attendance or army preference, please let me know as soon as possible.

We intend to fit players into groups with a theme, these are as follows-

The Greeks and enemies
Rome and their many enemies
The Dark Ages

We intend to play 3 games, time permitting and so to help speed up play, the following deployments and objectives will be used. Attendees are urged to read the 'Battle Begins' section starting on page 153. You can download a set of cards with the Battle Objectives from our web site to speed up selection. Remember, 'No Plan Survives Contact with the Enemy' on page 159.

Game 1
Deployment Zone: Summer (page 155)
Deployment Method: (2) Deploy by Formation Type (page 158)
Game Length: Fixed Length (page 159)

Game 2
Deployment Zone: Autumn (page 155)
Deployment Method: (5) One Side Deploys First (page 158)
Game Length: Variable Length (page 159)

Game 3
Deployment Zone: Spring (page 156)
Deployment Method: (6) Unit by Unit (page 158)
Game Length: Player Calls Time (page 159)

You may use Veiled Hand (page 158) in the games, should you so wish. As for a number of players this will be their first games, it would be polite to let your opponent know you are doing so.

Terrain
Items of club terrain will be on the tables. Don't forget to select at least one Rally Point each. With that in mind, you will need to bring something to indicate your Rally Point, and if you wish to bring one or two items of terrain, that is absolutely fine.

Winning and Losing
There is no “street cred” in winning a game of toy soldiers. There will be a number of people who haven’t played much/at all, so please help them along and enjoy the day.

Finish time
About 5pm

Questions?
Please get in contact via email at philturner@talktalk.net or telephone, 07794908204.
If you cannot make the event or are delayed on the day, please let us know.

Post  PeterT on November 5th 2012, 17:20

Just wanted to say what a great day I had on Sunday, and special thanks to Phil for organising it. I thought it was a great success and would personally be very much up for another War and Conquest day, and for a few more Sundays having a bit longer to game. I'd certainly be up for hiring the hall for 3/4 Sundays a year.

Thanks also to Tony for letting me walk over his Late Romans in the final game. As Tony's Late Romans wiped my Anglo Saxons in my first ever WAB game, revenge was sweet, and only beating Reece would have improved the days gaming!

I'll be posting a few pics on my blog, but look forward to seeing some pics from people who brought better cameras.

Thanks Phil for organising a very successful gaming day. I think it was a huge success and was made better by seeing Rob Broom holding you to a draw and the look on your face Mad

Thanks to Pete, Ginge and Dave for three very close games that were very enjoyable.

Looking forward to the next event.

Oh by the way it was fun seeing Ben get beaten by a youngster cheers cheers cheers

I'll get Ginge to post the pictures I took when l download them.

Cheers

Well done chaps for hosting such a great day, especially Phil for organising the event. Although I only stayed for a couple of hours it looked like a great day.

I did take a few photos and i've posted them in the "Photo Gallery" section of the forum here.

As has already been said before, well done phil for a superb event. I really enjoyed my 3 games, although the only good troops i had in that dodgy army were the ones Phil said were "usless".

Always nice to grind Dyson under under my boots.

The only problem i had with the whole day was the prize giving. Naturally, when Phil announced that the youngsters are the future of our fantastic hobby i was a bit peeved not to pick up a blister. I mean, i'm pretty much fresh out of nappy stage compared to the rest of you.

Hay ho, always next year Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
